Chevalier said, "..vigorous plant w/dark olive green leaves spotted w/ burgundy - oblique branched spike w/dull bracts - brownish red on orange shaded yellow background". Dutrie said, "..Of about 50 hybrids obtained between 1882 and 1894 - only this one has a branched inflorescence". (See ChevalierMon1930, ChevalierCat1942p81, Mez1935p408 and Duval, The Bromeliads, 1990p132) - Bromeliad Treasury 1983 said, "A reflexed rosette of 1-1/2" x 12" olive green leaves densely spotted w/deep burgundy dots - the leaf tips curl like the saundersii parent - the slanting inflorescence is 2' long w/2 spikes about 6" long w/reddish brown bracts and yellow flowers".
