VRIESEA ‘Mackay’ | Little R* | <1984
The Pinegrove Nursery Ledger reveals under entry # 1306, parentage xNigra x 'Mrs Mahoney' with the plant having been acquired 8/1984 from Mackay. This raises a few problems because the Australian ‘Nigra’ is not the same as the correct ‘Nigra’ - see notes. ‘Mrs Mahoney’ also spelt ‘Maloney’ on other labels is clearly the name of the person who supplied the unknown Vriesea used as the pollen parent. Finally was Mackay a name of the person or the town in Queensland? In any event it is a pretty little plant that deserves a name having been around for say 30 years. Plant, 200mm across x 250 mm height, paddle is 110 mm x 45 mm. Reg Doc Ross Little 2/2011. Country of origin: Australia
