Origin of this plant is controversial - Illustration by Hobbs on JBS 9:81 is largely vittata w/no apparent influence of amoena - See Giridlian's article in JBS 11:12 - Smith and Downs treats name by citation only - Padilla's illustrations are apparently 100% vittata. These problems could have been caused if, as Lyman Smith suggests, buchholtzii is a hybrid especially vittata x amoena.
