AECHMEA ‘Prinsler's Link’ | Link / R Little* | circa 1970 | |
Mature large, spiny rosette to 60cm. diameter x 40cm. high. Silvery-grey/green rosette with silver cross-banding and central cream / yellow variegation. Erect spike to 50cms. high of scarlet scape bracts, branched creamy yellow "paddles" and yellow flowers. About 1972 German grower Hermann Prinsler visited the German Bromeliad Nursery of Mr. Link who had grown hundreds of Aechmea chantinii from seed. One of these advanced seedlings was variegated and H. Prinsler bought it. Over the years it kept its variegation and H. Prinsler even exported it to U.S.A. where it became known as Ae. chantinii var. variegata (ref: Padilla's 1981 book :"The Colorful Bromeliads: Their Infinite Variety" [page 71: photo]). It is here at last formally named and registered as Ae. 'Prinsler's Link' . See also a marginated form Ae. 'Hermann's Link'. Chantinii Group. Reg. Doc. 3/2015 by R.
