AECHMEA ‘Maryann’ ? / Burke B* circa 1985 ?

Mature, open, broad-leaved rosette to 1-1/2 metres diameter x 1 metre high. Bronzed green foliage with minute brown spines. Erect, red-bracted, multi-branched spike to 2 metres tall with golden orange ovaries and orange petals, ageing to peach tones over several months. This cultivar originated as seed labelled Hohenbergia ridleyi from former Cairns, Queensland grower June Bennett and was grown on by north Queensland grower Barry Burke who named this clone after his wife. This grex sibling was thought to be a x Hohenmea, but the flowering specimen does not show this evidence. Consensus among some learned Australian breeders suggests this is probably an Aechmea with parentage Ae. blanchetiana (?) x chantinii (?). Blanchetiana Group. Reg. Doc. 9/2013 by G. Lawn.
