Mature, large, open, funnel-form rosette to over 1 metre diameter x over 1 metre high. In strong light, Broad, black-spined, leathery scurfed, purplish puce- coloured, strap-like leaves. Erect / leaning, branched spike to 1 metre tall with bright, orange-bracted fascicules and orange flowers. Wild-collected by John Anderson & Wally Berg in August 1995, North of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Identified as Ae. mulfordii by Harry Luther in 1998.
