Bromeliad Cultivar Register (10681)

NEOREGELIA ‘Takemura Group’

This name came on the scene in the early 1960’s when apparently seed of a hybrid was sent to Takemura in Japan from Richter in Germany. Takemura in turn, shared seed or seedlings with Davis in Florida. Ever since 1978 when James Elmore wrote on the ‘Fabled Takemuras’ in Grande Vol. 1 #1, we have wondered what a ‘true’ Takemura Grande’ should look like. Since then other hybrids have been created which have the traits of the Takemuras. Such are the attributes of these cultivars, they are still being used in hybridising programs 30 years later. Entering Takemura Group in the notes section in Advanced Search will give a list of these. This entry 10/2011 by D. Butcher
